The Mississippi Gourd Society (MSGS) was established on September 15, 2007, at the 4th Annual Gourd Gracious Festival in Collinsville, MS. Susan Byra had worked up a constitution and by-laws in accordance to similar state gourd societies, and set up a booth at the festival and solicited membership. At the end of the day, the MSGS had a handful of volunteer officers with 43 charter members.

In January 2008, the first MSGS newsletter was published. MSGS members gathered at the 1st Annual North Mississippi Gourd Festival at Adkins Farms in Booneville, MS on May 10, 2008. By our first anniversary in September 2008, the MSGS had become the Psi Chapter of the American Gourd Society.

The MSGS is a growing young organization of people who love gourds and everything about them. We publish a newsletter twice a year, have a group site on Yahoo, a Facebook page, and offer gourders help in any way we can.

Here we are way back when at the first meeting of the Mississippi Gourd Society.
